Toronto After Dark 2010 Lineup

CULT DISCOVERIES
It’s almost time for the fifth annual Toronto After Dark Film Festival, and if you weren’t excited already, this year’s lineup of new horror, sci-fi, action, and cult films should remedy that. Read on for the full list of 16 films that will have their local premieres this August 13-20, 2010, at the city’s legendary Bloor Cinema.

A fantastic eclectic cast (Natasha Lyonne, Thomas Dekker, Noah Segan, Mink Stole, Peaches Christ, Elvira) chew all kinds of scenery in the velvet curtain movie theatre set cult horror flick ALL ABOUT EVIL (Tues, Aug 17, 9.45pm) that will seem to be perfect viewing fare at our very own cult venue, the Bloor Cinema! While a stoner comedy may not seem like the most obvious fit for Toronto After Dark, when you see Adrien Brody’s crazed performance as drug dealer Psycho Ed amongst too many WTF moments to mention in the Sundance hit HIGH SCHOOL (Sun, Aug 15, 9.45pm), you’ll see why we programmed this offbeat piece of cinematic madness!

So if you happen to be in Toronto, here’s a chance to see All About Evil!

Thomas Dekker in ‘Footloose’?

Paramount Studio’s remake of the 1984 monster dance flick Footloose is back on track again after Chace Crawford’s defection, the Los Angeles Times reported Thursday.

The leading candidate to fill Kevin Baker’s shoes? Heroes star Thomas Dekker, 22, who recently enhanced his remake cred with a recycled version of A Nightmare on Elm Street that scored well at the box office. Dekker also played John Connor in Fox Television’s Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and received good notices for his role in the well-received Cannes indie Kaboom.

Footloose tells the story of Ren McCormack who moves from the big city to a small town where rock ‘n’ roll is banned. Ren proceeds to set the town moving and shaking when he takes over planning for the senior prom.

High School Musical star Zac Efron was originally set to reprise the Bacon role, but dropped out of the project after deciding to move his career in less musical, more dramatic directions. The other big change is occurring behind the camera with Craig Brewer replacing Kenny Ortega as director.

Extended Nightmare Synopsis

New Line passed along the official, extended synopsis for A Nightmare on Elm Street, in case you needed a refresher as to what the movie is about.

Nancy (Rooney Mara), Kris (Katie Cassidy), Quentin (Kyle Gallner), Jesse (Thomas Dekker) and Dean (Kellan Lutz) all live on Elm Street. At night, they’re all having the same dream – of the same man, wearing a tattered red and green striped sweater, a beaten fedora half-concealing a disfigured face and a gardener’s glove with knives for fingers. And they’re all hearing the same frightening voice…

One by one, he terrorizes them within the curved walls of their dreams, where the rules are his, and the only way out is to wake up.

But when one of their number dies a violent death, they soon realize that what happens in their dreams happens for real, and the only way to stay alive is to stay awake. Turning to each other, the four surviving friends try to uncover how they became part of this dark fairytale, hunted by this dark man. Functioning on little to no sleep, they struggle to understand why them, why now, and what their parents aren’t telling them.

Buried in their past is a debt that has just come due, and to save themselves, they will have to plunge themselves into the mind of the most twisted nightmare of all… Freddy Krueger.

All About Evil Screening

The San Francisco International Film Festival is proud to announce the one-night only WORLD PREMIERE of ALL ABOUT EVIL, the feature film debut of local filmmaker Joshua Grannell. The highly anticipated black comedy was shot entirely in San Francisco throughout 2009. On May 1st, 2010, the Castro Theatre plays host to this very special introduction, as local midnight movie impresario, Grannell’s alter-ego, and Evil co-star Peaches Christ presents a wild, over-the-top pre-show extravaganza celebrating ALL ABOUT EVIL’s screening as part of the prestigious San Francisco International Film Festival, as well as the kick-off of a cross-country event-based theatrical roadshow where Peaches will present the film with specially created stage-shows and events in cities everywhere.

Ms. Christ has been invited to turn the screening into a Midnight Mass produced ‘Spooktacular” the likes of which have never been seen before. Prepare to be enthralled and amazed by a wild, multi-media, rock ‘n’ roll entertainment that will be remembered for years to come. Peaches is bringing in not only many of her notorious Midnight Mass Players, but she’s invited some of the stars of ALL ABOUT EVIL as well, including Natasha Lyonne, Mink Stole and Thomas Dekker who will all be appearing as part of the show. Live music to get you on your feet! Shocks and surprises to keep you reeling!

Also scheduled to be in attendance is the film’s writer/director, Joshua Grannell, who will be available after the screening for what is sure to be a colorful and insightful Q&A with the cast and audience. The film is already on the lips of local film-lovers; be the first to see it, on what is surely going to be a night to remember.
